As a long time fan of The Moody Blues, their album, Long Distance Voyager, came to mind. Their song, 22,000 Days, stood out. (The average life expectancy not long ago - 60 years plus leap year extra days) Such verse is part of what helps me focus attention and energy on today. I’m always grateful for your topics and the effort you make to enliven the subject.

I believe you’ve written a helpful, if not vital, essay today, Linda. AA recovery was my path, one I embarked on 26 ya. “Functioning alcoholic” is an inaccurate term that fails to take into account the drinker’s insides. A line from the AA Big Book reads, “The urge to drink had been removed,” as was my case. A “One Chip Wonder” some labeled my experience. I drank to drown my feelings, drinking to within inches of a blackout every night. Avoiding the next morning hangover was by taking 8 aspirin at bedtime. If I were to choose one sentence from the Big Book it’s this, “What we have is a daily reprieve, contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.” Great Spirit is source for me, seeing connection with the whole of creation. Learning to feel and be a part of, not apart from, has been a central energy shift. I’m grateful for your topic today, Linda, and with April 27 close at hand I’d like to wish you a Happy Birthday.
