I have succumbed to a fever I do not want to be cured of: World Cup fever.
My social media feed is mercifully filled with highlight reels, celebrations and shenanigans. My heart is filled with the cultural cross-pollination, joy and discovery happening across the three host countries. Terrible things continue to happen in the world, but I’m grateful for this respite. It’s hard not to ask why this sense of brother- and sisterhood can’t always be this way; this sense of fun and fellowship.
When we awaken from this dream, I hope we won’t return to the nightmare of political opportunism and negativity. We must reject the othering, suspicion and isolationism.
We must remember these days of warmly embracing each other regardless of cultural and racial differences. Differences can be overcome, nay lauded, when not filtered through fear and cynicism.
The world needs a little more World Cup. Not FIFA, not the politics, the world coming together to delight and celebrate each other. If we all carry this joy into our lives, humanity wins.

Love this post. Here in Mexico, it's been amazing! The joy is contagious. It's been thrilling to watch the photos of the events. And on the streets here in San Miguel, people are wearing the green sports tops everywhere. It's such a delight to feel the wave of joyous delight sweep through the country.
Beautiful Linda! Thank you.
