I started this morning with a headache, feeling lethargic rather than refreshed.
The dogs I’m babysitting are playing tag.
Kalani (a one-and-a-half-year-old female Husky-X) is a pain-in-the-butt for Maika’i (five-and-a-half-year-old male Husky-X). She teases him to get him chasing her. They run endless laps through the kitchen and living room — it is a wreck, as the rug gets bunched up while they race.
I smile as they run past, scooping their butts to make the sharp corners. They take collegial water breaks and seem ready to lie down to recoup, but moments later, they charge past again — always in the same direction. Maika’i uses his brain as much as his speed to outfox Kalani. He stops and waits rather than simply chasing. Kalani then comes barreling around the corner, slamming right into him. Delighted, she runs off again. She would play this game for hours if he let her.
They entertain me with their antics as I write. The action drives my words as they round my chair. I can’t help myself, I cheer them on; their playfulness is contagious. Tongues hanging out, the brightness in their eyes, now they are slowing again. Breathlessly entertained while I write their story.
I’m grateful for their silliness today. Like four-legged ‘menacine’, my headache has abated.

Note: They look like they’re playing for keeps in these photos. A few body slams, and it looks like they are going for the jugular, but they don’t hurt each other. Ultimately, they lie down butt to but for a rest before they go at it again, and again indoors and out.

Love this - esp the action photos!
Pets having fun are such a great distraction from pain! Glad you're feeling better. x
