March’s debut has come and gone.
Already.
Perhaps the January resolutions flamed out long ago. Maybe we don’t even remember what we had set as goals for 2024. Does ‘already’ refer to our intention to accomplish more than we have in the past two months?
Are our dreams dust or merely dusty?
When conceiving my annual goals late last year, gardening weather was a distant memory. During the dark, grey winter months, it seemed I would never leave the house. Plans to sit at my desk and work seemed infinitely possible. There were so many things I would accomplish! I chose ‘possibility’ as my word for 2024. It still feels apt.
March is the beginning of the last month in the first quarter. The business mindset of planning in quarters has not left me entirely. It’s an opportunity to consider what time is still available. The glass of 2024 is three-quarters full.
Life emerges from my garden soil, and robins serenade this hibernating gardener.
On my daily rounds through the yard, I invite the dozy daffodils, croci and snowdrops to surface. I’m thrilled by the merest sign of green. I kneel on the frosty ground, lifting brown leaves like old men’s hands to see if there’s life beneath. I hope I don’t lose too many from false starts. These poor souls have been fooled by the weather.
While it’s “March already,” there’s plenty of time left in this year of possibility. What to prioritize in the fair weather months and beyond?
My garden of aspirations awaits a bit of tender care and belief to bring them back to life.
It’s not too late to start again.
Where will you renew your efforts as Spring emerges?
Beautiful words, all of them, but these in particular: "I invite the dozy daffodils, croci and snowdrops to surface. I’m thrilled by the merest sign of green. I kneel on the frosty ground, lifting brown leaves like old men’s hands to see if there’s life beneath."
❤️
I love this time of year! The birds are going crazy and the garden's coming alive. I'm getting fed up with all this rain we've got in south-east UK at the moment - but hey, the plants need it, so that's fine. Saw my first lamb of spring yesterday!!!! 🥰
I find the idea that the glass of 2024 is 3/4 full helpful. Great visual!
